Ballard is a vibrant community with a deep Scandinavian history, booming maritime industry, and hip indie culture. You will find beautiful architecture from the turn of the century; a Nordic Heritage Museum, sandy beaches, a popular farmer’s market, a hot Foodie and nightlife scene, and some of the best microbreweries in the city. Because of all of this, it is now one of the most rapidly growing neighborhoods in Seattle.
Ballard is located in the northwestern part of Seattle, Washington. To the north it is bounded by Crown Hill, (N.W. 85th Street); to the east by Greenwood, Phinney Ridge, and Fremont (along 8th Avenue N.W.); to the south by the Lake Washington Ship Canal; and to the west by Puget Sound’s Shilshole Bay.
During the summer, people flock to Golden Gardens, a beach and park on the western edge of Ballard. There are gorgeous views of the Olympic mountains, picnic amenities, a dog park and it is a great place to enjoy the summer sunshine. Another popular spot is the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, also known as the Ballard Locks, where the water levels are changed, allowing boats easy passage from Puget Sound to Lake Washington.
The growth and popularity of Ballard as a place to live, work, and play over the last decade has been unprecedented. With its combination of historic charm and natural beauty, Ballard will continue to be a popular neighborhood.
